sheep can be classified in several different ways. Examples being, classed by
their suitability for meat production vs wool production, topography of the
area they originated or the type of wool they produce.
Bay’s purposes, we use the wool type classification to get an understanding and
an appreciation of the different types of wool available to the spinner and
textile artist. In the below chart you
can see the breed breakdown of wools ranging from fine to coarse wool. The starred
breeds are wools Ashland Bay currently has in stock and are going to be a part of
Ashland Bay’s celebration of the Year of the Sheep. More on that soon!
